The Kooks
Many “Fibers” were asked why this band from Brighton was so well situated in the prime time slot of the festival. The answer was simple: The Kooks cater to a plethora of genres in each song while still retaining their unique indie style, something which has been so infrequently been attempted and succeeded at.
They opened the show with a number compiled
of “Seaside” and “See the World” and continued on with their better known hits
such as “Naïve”, “Sofa Song”, and “Eddie’s Gun”. The audience had their eyes
glued to the every movement of lead singer Luke Pritchard whose Brighton accent has a
complimenting feel to the harmony of the band’s songs. His stage presence was
as evident as his signature voice, constantly moving around, more often than
not quite sporadically, gave an ironic sense of comfort to the crowd because of
how secure he was with his amateurism, so to speak.
Their
performance and the response from the crowd proved to us one thing: British
indie rock is here and it is no doubt going to stay.
