Kalli - Where the City Sleeps

Is it raining outside? Do you want nothing more than forget the world for a while or are you currently suffering from a broken heart? Than this album is probably just what you need.

"Where the City Sleeps" is Kalli's (former forntman of Without Gravity) debut solo album and it has everything we already loved about him when he was still with his band.
Released on May 1 in 2007 on the One Little Indian label, this album is like a warm cup of tea on a rainy afternoon or a mild wind on a hot summer's night.
The soothing harmonies and piano and guitar based melodies (with other odd string arrangement thrown into the mix), are the perfect base for Kalli's etherial voice. The lyrics feature the familiar themes of heartbreak, angst and a young man's pain in this world and it always seems to be raining in Kalli's world. But don't worry, the danger of suffering from depression after listening to "Where the City Sleeps" is rather low. More optimistic sounding tunes (the music, not the lyrics) are provided by the tracks "It's Over", with it's lovely fairground intro, and "Jupiter".
One can't help but think that most of the songs sound very much liket they could be featured in the next episode of The OC, and it is probably true that Kalli was more than a little inspired by the American "shoegazing" scene, but this is not a bad thing.
This album will sooth your heart and touch your soul without being cheesy, and sometime's that's just what one needs.
