Klaxons

The Klaxons performed their usual hits with the pulsing beat that characterizes the rave style, made famous in the 1990s. Their performance harked back to that time with some innovations and improvements that elevated the rave performance beyond retro as they fashioned an entirely new sound. Although some of their singles have been used for snappy advertising jingles, they are far from ordinary, and we can all expect to hear more from the Klaxons, who made the evening of July 20th at Benicassim, one to remember.

The Klaxons have called themselves the “four horsemen of 2012” and derive their sound from early 90s rave.  Among their first and best-known singles is “Magick” which is truly magical and an unforgettable number.  Their influences go beyond music, and they admit affection for the famed novelist William Burroughs and Thomas Pynchon, (naming one of their singles “Gravity’s Rainbow.”)

The Benicassim music festival attracts thousands of fans every year, and features rookie artists who are new to the scene as well as veterans such as Iggy Pop, the Human League, and Devo.  It was a pleasure to see that British bands such as the Klaxons were not kept down by the terrible weather in Britain, which included the worst flood since 1948.

The Klaxons are expected to continue fascinating music fans with their techno beat and original music.  A night out is not the same without Klaxons’ tunes playing from a stereo of a car or a nightclub.  The British music scene so far has been welcoming to the talents of the Klaxons, and fans expect to see more in the future from this innovative and unsinkable band that braved the UK storms to give a stellar performance in Spain.
