New Age samurais from the land of the Vikings Ghost Dog are a a piece band from Norway, who named themselves after "a dying breed, an aestetic,new age samurai with an inclination for substance and poetry". But don't worry, these boys from the land of the Vikings don't make music you'd meditate to. The band consists of Rune Didriksen amd Petter Vagan on guitar, Andreas Hamre on bass, Tage vedal on drums, and singer Ivan Magnussen. The band has only been together in this form for just aout a year but Magnussen and Didriksen have known each other since early childhood and have been making music together for 15 years now, with the rest joining them at different points in time. Although it is Rune who starts writing most of their songs, they are usually finished together in unplugged jam sessions "all get to influence them by the way they play them". Stating that "at first we where just happy making noise", they now see themselves more as part of the Indie scene, being influenced by country here and there naming The Stone Roses, Sonic Youth, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Johnny Cash as their main musical influences. Originally inspired to pick up a guitar by KISS, because they wanted to be just as cool as them, they now take they're inspiration from " a past of drinking hard, doing drugs and finally getting out of it". They also say that they are influenced by "books we've read, music we listen to or simply our life in a small, industrialized city with low self esteem". Having already played smaller tours throughout Norway, the band is now hoping to tour in Germany soon. Their dream tour would be the place as support act for the Stone Roses reunion tour but they also have a plan b: "If that should prove difficult, we could always go on tour with the Rolling Stones." The band is planning to release their deut album this year but is still undecided about where they should sign, not sure if Norway is really the best place for their music. Being asked about their future ambitions they answer like true Vinking samurais: "Total world domination, all the while having a good time. Spiritual enlightenment would also be nice".
