Cassini's Division

Biography

Cassini’s Division is credited with having established alternative rock as a popular genre in Calcutta’s burgeoning rock scene. The band, formed in 2001, has also developed a national presence having played the best festivals in the country, including Great Indian Rock 2005.

The band plays an intoxicating blend of various flavours in modern music. Combining the lyrical and melodic nuances of modern rock with rapping, nu-metal guitar and textured lead vocals, Cassini’s Division is able to successfully reach out to a diverse audience. From schools and college festivals to some of the country’s most happening pubs, the band’s explosive live show has received tumultuous applause.

“We don’t sound like any other band. The music has a contemporary vibe and the audience feeds on the sheer energy and conviction we play with. From Jamshedpur to Chennai or up North, we’ve seen the same reaction. Most of the time the uniqueness of it just blows the audience mind away,” is how vocalist and front-man Rahul Guha Roy describes the Cassini’s Division phenomenon.

Without a doubt, Cassini’s Division has the biggest, most loyal and vocal fan-base among English language rock bands in the region. A Cassini’s Division show goes beyond being merely a gig. Scores of fans turn up to watch the band perform at whatever venue they play. Just imagine a family of over 300, tied together by the power of music and you’ll begin to understand what makes this band so special.

Till very recently, Cassini’s Division played the weekly AlterJAM slot at Someplace Else, The Park – Calcutta, on Sundays. After three years as a house-band at the pub, the band has decided to take a breather and concentrate on taking the band’s live shows to as many venues as possible in the city and beyond. The band is also currently shopping for a major label deal for its debut full-length album, The Ringside View, which will otherwise be released independently by the year end.

As of now Cassini’s Division is poised to take things to the next level, taking the music and the culture to bigger audiences across the nation and hopefully the world.
